(2R)-2-Hydroxy-2,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.1]heptan-3-one is an enantiomer of the amino acid (S)-alanine. It can be used for the synthesis of other amino acids and as a precursor for pharmaceuticals. The (2R) form of this compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
