2-(2-Propenyloxy)-1,1'-biphenyl is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. This compound may have potential as an anti-inflammatory drug. The mechanism of action for this compound has been elucidated by LC-MS/MS methods. 2-(2-Propenyloxy)-1,1'-biphenyl inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and thereby reducing inflammation. It also inhibits lipoxgenase and thereby reduces inflammatory leukotrienes. This compound has significant cytotoxicity in vitro, which is most likely due to its ability to form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with DNA and proteins.
