LAU159 is a drug for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, tinnitus and hyperactivity. It is a selective ligand for TRPV1 receptors, which are activated by capsaicin and heat. Ligands that activate TRPV1 receptors on sensory neurons have been shown to inhibit the release of substance P, which is an inflammatory mediator involved in the pain pathway. This drug also has anti-depressant properties, which may be due to its ability to modulate serotonin neurotransmission.
