2’C-Methyl-5-trifluoromethyluridine is a novel antiviral agent that is modified from the natural nucleoside uridine. It has been shown to be active against herpes simplex virus type 1 and human cytomegalovirus in vitro. In addition, it has been found to inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells and induce apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. 2’C-Methyl-5-trifluoromethyluridine is a monophosphate with a modified ribonucleotide moiety that interacts with DNA polymerases and inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA. This drug has been shown to be an effective anticancer agent.
