H-DL-Arg-OH hydrochloride is a proton donor that stabilizes the plasma membrane in cells. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of active substances in erythrocytes and to reduce the rate of glucose uptake by these cells. The stability of H-DL-Arg-OH hydrochloride is increased by admixing with chloride salts, which may be due to its ability to form hydrochloride salts. This proton donor has also been shown to have an immune stimulating effect on cell cultures in vitro.
