Pitavastatin 3-O-glucuronide

Pitavastatin 3-O-glucuronide is a synthetic, water soluble glycosylate prodrug of pitavastatin, a third generation HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. Pitavastatin 3-O-glucuronide has been shown to be effective in lowering serum cholesterol and triglycerides in humans. This drug is metabolized by hydrolysis of the glucuronide moiety and cleavage of the sugar moiety to form active pitavastatin. Pitavastatin 3-O-glucuronide also has an increased stability against oxidation compared to pitavastatin.
