2,2-Difluoro-1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopropyl]methanol is an organic compound that belongs to the class of compounds known as alcohols. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 131 degrees Celsius and a density of 0.8984 g/mL. 2,2-Difluoro-1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopropyl]methanol can be produced by the aerobic oxidation of 2,2-difluoro-1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopropane with oxygen in the presence of copper(II) acetate in acetic acid solution. The ring opening reaction occurs at the 1,3 positions and yields a diol and two molecules of formaldehyde. This compound has been used as an organic dye for textile materials and has been shown to have biomolecular properties.
