CAS :Beta,beta-dimethylacrylshikonin is a natural compound that has been shown to have cytotoxic properties against human pathogens and cancer cells. It inhibits the growth of P. aeruginosa and E. coli in vitro by inducing oxidative DNA damage and apoptosis. Beta,beta-dimethylacrylshikonin induces mitochondrial depolarization in L1210 murine leukemia cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit ATP production and reduce intracellular glutathione levels. This compound also induces an increase in the mitochondrial membrane potential in K562 cells. Beta,beta-dimethylacrylshikonin has also been shown to induce cell death in human carcinoma cell lines by inhibiting protein synthesis and promoting DNA fragmentation.
