It has been shown to inhibit the demethylation of flavones and to activate the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway in cells. 3,4-Dimethoxybenzoic acid anhydride has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
