Dimethyl chlorothiophosphate (DMCTP) is a template molecule for the preparation of polyclonal antibodies. The reactivity of DMCTP with hydroxyl groups on the surface of lipoproteins has been studied by NMR spectroscopy. The product, which is a phosphocholine, can be detected by polyclonal antibodies raised against the phosphocholine-containing peptide. In addition, FTIR spectroscopy has been used to study DMCTP's conformational properties and reactivity with alkanoic acid.
