It has been shown to be more sensitive than other chemical reagents in the detection of these ions at concentrations as low as 10−14 M. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane reacts with the hydroxyl group of water vapor and hydrochloric acid, forming a diazonium salt.
