Octyl a-L-rhamnopyranoside is a custom-synthesized, fluorinated, methylated, monosaccharide with saccharide and polysaccharide modifications. Octyl a-L-rhamnopyranoside is synthesized by condensing 1,2:3,4-di-O-isopropylidene D-mannitol with 5-(bromomethyl)benzene sulfonyl chloride to give 5-(Bromomethyl)benzene sulfonic acid.
