CAS :3-Methylcyclopent-2-enone is a biologically active compound that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of mouse melanoma cells. 3-Methylcyclopent-2-enone inhibits the production of crotonic acid, one of the major intermediates in the synthesis of cyclopentenones. It also inhibits the growth of mycobacteria and other bacteria by inducing cell death. 3-Methylcyclopent-2-enone is formed by reacting crotonic acid with a base such as hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide.
