CAS :L-Glyceric acid is a monocarboxylic acid that is an important biochemical intermediate in the metabolism of glucose. It is produced from pyruvic acid by glycolysis and may be converted to lactic acid by decarboxylation. L-Glyceric acid has been shown to have a role in the diagnosis of metabolic disorders, such as renal failure, where it has been found to be elevated in patients with reduced glomerular filtration rate. The polymerization of L-glyceric acid generates poly(L-glycerol) esters that are insoluble polymers. The degree of polymerization can be determined using a model system with L-glyceric acid and hydrochloric acid, which produces poly(L-glycerol) esters with different degrees of polymerization.
