    2,3-Dihydroxy-5-(1-methylethyl)-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one is a natural compound that has been shown to have antiviral activity against the herpes simplex virus. It is also an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of the viral protein gp120. 2,3-Dihydroxy-5-(1-methylethyl)-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one can be synthesized from crotonic acid. This compound can also be found in an ethanol extract of the leaves of Garcinia mangostana Linn. The structure of this compound was elucidated by mass spectrometry and it was found to exist as heterodimers with two other molecules: 2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4'-hydroxybenz
