CAS :Produit contrôléO,O'-Diethyl dithiophosphate (ODDT) is a wastewater treatment agent that has been used for the removal of copper from industrial wastes. It reacts with sodium carbonate to form the soluble copper complex and precipitates as the insoluble copper sulphide. The reaction of ODDT with copper is an oxidation-reduction process that occurs at the surface of the metal. This reaction has been shown to be beneficial for the removal of lead from solutions. It has also been used as a cationic surfactant in analytical chemistry. ODDT has shown neurotoxic effects in animals and its mechanism may be due to its ability to inhibit oxidative phosphorylation by binding to cytochrome c oxidase, leading to neuronal death. This molecule is fluorescent and can be detected using fluorescence spectrometry or adsorption onto a detector surface.
