CAS :5-Methylphenazinium methosulfate is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reagent that can be used for the detection of opportunistic fungal infections. It is an optimum concentration for PCR amplification, and has been shown to induce cell lysis in vitro. 5-Methylphenazinium methosulfate does not require any additional components, such as dinucleotide phosphate or calcium ions, to act as a PCR reagent. This agent also has a pharmacological activity against cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to interfere with the function of the cytosolic calcium ion pump.
