CAS :Pentyl acrylate is a hydroxy-functionalized monomer that is used in the preparation of polymers by polymerization with other monomers. It undergoes reactions with strong acids, including hydrochloric acid and sodium citrate, to form esters. Pentyl acrylate has been shown to react with radiation to form free radicals and so is considered a reactive compound. The free radicals can then initiate reactions between other molecules, such as the reaction between acrylates and chloride that forms polyacrylic acid. Reactions involving this molecule are often carried out at low temperatures or under constant pressure conditions to prevent unwanted reactions from occurring. Pentyl acrylate has also been shown to produce polymers with optical properties that can be tuned by changing the structure of the monomers that are used in the polymerization process.
