CAS :N-Dimethylformamide is a solvent that has been extensively used in the synthesis of dyes and pharmaceuticals. 1,3-Diiminoisoindoline is a copper complex that is formed by reacting N-dimethylformamide with copper(II) chloride or copper(I) iodide. It has been shown to have photochemical properties and can be used as an anticancer drug. The isolated yield of 1,3-diiminoisoindoline can be increased by using palladium complexes or nitrogen atoms in its structure. This compound also reacts with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen chloride gas and diiminoisoindoline. The hydrogen bonds between these two molecules are crucial for this reaction to occur.
