[Ala17]-MCH is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect biomolecules, such as DNA and RNA. It is lipophilic in nature and has been shown to react with mouse melanoma cells. When it reacts with these cells, the fluorescence of the probe increases. The enzymatic reaction can be monitored using a fluorescence resonance hybridization assay or an immunoassay. This probe has also been used to study insulin resistance in clinical use and other biological studies, including luminescent probes and assays.
