It has been shown to be an activator of the GABA A receptor and has been used as a research tool in cell biology and neuroscience. 11-(2-Chlorophenyl)-2,3,4,5,10,11-hexahydro-10-(1-oxopentyl)-1H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]diazepin-1-one binds to the receptor with high affinity and selectivity. It has also been shown to inhibit ion channels such as potassium channels.
