(9Beta,13α,14Beta,17α)-2-Methoxyestra-1,3,5(10)-triene-3,17-diyl disulfamate is a potent and selective inhibitor of the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. (9Beta,13α,14Beta,17α)-2-Methoxyestra-1,3,5(10)-triene-3,17-diyl disulfamate has been shown to induce autophagy in breast cancer cells by blocking reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. This drug also disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits mitochondrial functions. The side effects of this drug are not well known because it has only been used in animal studies so far. However, it is thought that there may be liver toxicity as one of its side effects due to the fact that it is metabolized through cytochrome P450
