2-Aminothieno[2,3-d]thiazole is a heterocyclic compound that has been used as a building block in organic synthesis. It has been found to be an intermediate in the deamination of 2-aminopyrimidine and the reductive chlorination of ethyl or benzyl thiocyanate. 2-Aminothieno[2,3-d]thiazole is produced by the decarboxylation of 2-aminoacetophenone and can be oxidized to produce 2,4-diaminothiazole. The optical rotation varies with the solvent used, with values given for ethanol being [α] = -8.5° (c=0.1 in HCl) and for methanol [α] = +6.7° (c=0.1 in HCl).
