    <p>AA41612 is a synthetic retinoid that has been shown to regulate the circadian rhythm of ganglion cells in the retina. It reversibly blocks the photoreceptor's ability to respond to light and regulates the retinal ganglion cells that transmit visual signals to the brain. The photophobia induced by AA41612 is thought to be due to its ability to suppress the release of glutamate from nerve terminals in the retina. In addition, this compound has been shown to decrease light-induced damage in retinal ganglion cells and may have potential as a treatment for blindness caused by macular degeneration.</p>
