The inhibitory effect of 4-cyanopiperidine on cyclic AMP causes it to have potent inhibitory activity against cb1 receptor, which is responsible for the psychoactive effects caused by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This drug also has potent antagonistic effects on pethidine and related drugs such as fentanyl, morphine, and oxycodone.
