4-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)-N-methylaniline is a diagnostic agent that has been shown to be specific for Alzheimer's disease. It is an uncharged molecule that can cross the blood brain barrier and interact with beta amyloid proteins in the brain. This interaction leads to a change in the magnetic resonance signal and can be used as a diagnostic tool for Alzheimer's disease. 4-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)-N-methylaniline has also been shown to significantly reduce neurofibrillary tangles in human brains and may have therapeutic potential because of its ability to cross the blood brain barrier.
