GT 949 also inhibits the formation of amyloid-β fibrils, which are associated with Alzheimer's disease. This peptide has also been shown to be neuroprotective following glutamate excitotoxicity and prion-induced neurotoxicity. GT 949 may also have potential use as a treatment for Parkinson's disease, because it can block the aggregation of alpha-synuclein oligomers and prevent the formation of Lewy bodies.
