CAS :3-Ethyldihydro-3-methylfuran-2,5-dione is a synthetic piperazine derivative. It is an aliphatic diuretic with pharmacological effects and has been shown to be active in the treatment of congestive heart failure. 3-Ethyldihydro-3-methylfuran-2,5-dione binds to the Na+, K+ and Cl− ions in the renal tubule and inhibits their reabsorption. This leads to increased sodium and water excretion from the body, which reduces blood volume and increases blood pressure. 3-Ethyldihydro-3-methylfuran-2,5-dione is also used as a starting material in organic synthesis.
