It binds to the thyroid hormone receptor, leading to the activation of other transcription factors and increased synthesis of proteins. 3,3',5-Triiodo thyroacetic acid has been shown to increase the metabolic rate in rats by increasing the expression of epidermal growth factor in skin cells and signal transduction in nerve cells. This drug also causes an increase in transcriptional regulation and protein synthesis. 3,3',5-Triiodo thyroacetic acid does not have any known side effects or toxicity.
