2-[5-Methyl-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetohydrazide (MTPA) is a hydrazide derivative that has been shown to be cytotoxic against human cells. MTPA binds to sulfa drugs, which cause crosslinking of proteins and inhibition of the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase. MTPA also has antimicrobial activity, inhibiting the growth of bacteria such as Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and Staphylococcus aureus. It is also used in pharmacological treatment for infectious diseases.
