It blocks the transfer mechanism of amino acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria, preventing the formation of new proteins and causing cell death. 4-Nitrophenylethyl bromide also inhibits DNA replication and light emission in tissue culture cells. This drug is genotoxic and can cause mutations in DNA, which may lead to cancer.
