It selectively interacts with the NR2A subunit and has shown to be an effective inhibitor of the NMDA receptor in rat cortical neurons. This compound has also been shown to have a high binding affinity for the NMDA receptor in rat brain tissue. 1-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-ylsulfonyl)-4-[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfonyl]piperazine is used as a research tool in cell biology and pharmacology.
