1-Benzofuran-2-carboximidamide hydrochloride is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is used in research to investigate the effects of serotonin on the central nervous system. It binds to the 5-HT1A receptor and inhibits serotonin uptake, preventing it from being broken down by neurons. This drug has also been shown to bind to 5-HT2C and D2 dopamine receptors, which may explain its ability to inhibit dopamine uptake. 1-Benzofuran-2-carboximidamide hydrochloride has been shown to have a high affinity for 5-HT1A receptors and has been used in animal studies at temperatures ranging from 0°C to 40°C.
