CAS :1-(Phenyl) 2-nitroethane is a nitro compound that reacts with hydroxyl groups in the body to produce reactive oxygen species. The nitro group on the 1-position of the benzoic acid moiety is converted to an amino group, which is oxidized to form a nitrite ion. Reactive oxygen species are generated from the reaction of 1-(phenyl) 2-nitroethane with hydrogen peroxide and superoxide radicals. 1-(Phenyl) 2-nitroethane has been shown to have antinociceptive properties, as well as minimal toxicity when used in rats at concentrations between 10 and 100 mg/kg. It has also been shown to be a natural product that can induce apoptosis by disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential and reducing intracellular calcium levels. Multiple molecular docking analysis studies have also shown that 1-(phenyl) 2-nitroethane binds to human cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP
