CAS :Tetrachlorocyclopropene is a Friedel-Crafts alkylation agent that reacts with the cyclohexane ring of aromatic hydrocarbons. This reaction results in the formation of methylene and alkyl derivatives, which have been shown to have minimal toxicity in vitro. Tetrachlorocyclopropene has also been shown to be genotoxic and mutagenic in vitro. The methylene derivative is an active antimicrobial agent against bacteria, but does not show activity against fungi or viruses. This compound has been used in vivo for the treatment of tumors and infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
