It functions primarily as an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist, leading to increased sympathetic nervous system activity. By inhibiting these receptors, yohimbine hydrochloride enhances the release of norepinephrine, resulting in the stimulation of adrenergic receptors, which can increase heart rate and blood pressure.
