CAS :Vernodalol is a sesquiterpene lactone that inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells, and to induce apoptosis in skin cells. Vernodalol is an anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity and prostaglandin production. This compound also has antimicrobial activity against a number of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli, as well as other microorganisms such as Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Vernodalol can be used for the treatment of infectious diseases such as histoplasmosis, leishmaniasis, and cryptococcosis. Vernodalol also possesses natural antioxidant properties that protect skin cells from UV radiation-induced cell death.
