Octane-1-sulfonamide (OSA) is a glycol ether that is used as a reagent for biological samples. It reacts with the hydroxyl group on proteins, which causes the compounds to become more hydrophobic and interact with each other. The OSAs are also reactive with fatty acids, which leads to cross-linking of cell membranes. This interaction may be related to the low light activity of OSA. Octane-1-sulfonamide can also bind cationic polymers, which may be useful in ophthalmic drugs.
