(2R,6R,7R)-Benzhydryl 7-benzamido-3-methylene-8-oxo-5-oxa-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]octane-2-carboxylate is an antibacterial agent that is a member of the class of β-lactams. It has potent antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This drug is also effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium complex, and Mycobacterium intracellulare. The mechanism of action of this drug is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding to penicillin binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall.
