CAS :Bis(tert-butyl)carbodiimide is a nitrogen-containing organic compound that can be used in coatings and as a crosslinking agent. It reacts with amines to form urea derivatives. Bis(tert-butyl)carbodiimide is also used as a ligand for coordination compounds, and has been shown to bind to the surfaces of metals, such as gold and silver, which facilitates the production of thin films. The reaction between bis(tert-butyl)carbodiimide and amines occurs at temperatures below 400 °C. This compound has been extensively studied using microscopy and X-ray crystallography. These studies have led to the determination of its molecular structure, allowing for functional group analysis. Growth rates have been determined through experiments with different concentrations of carbodiimides on bacterial colonies.
