CAS :4-Oxo-5-hexenoic acid is a ketocarboxylic acid that has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is an irreversible inhibitor of carboxylases, which are enzymes that synthesize fatty acids from acetyl-CoA units. 4-Oxo-5-hexenoic acid has been shown to have inhibitory effects on the formation of hydroxy groups and lactams, as well as antimalarial activity. In addition, it is a mild denaturant for proteins and can be used to remove proteins from solution by precipitation. This compound also forms ternary complexes with sodium periodate and c1-8 alkyl iodides, which are useful in chemical biology applications.
