Methyl 4-hydroxy-8-methoxyquinoline-2-carboxylate is a methyl ester of 8-methoxyquinoline. It can be synthesized from the acid methyl ester of 8-methoxyquinoline and methanol, or by heating quinoline with formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. Methyl 4-hydroxy-8-methoxyquinoline-2-carboxylate has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in animal cells.
