CAS :9-Chloroanthracene is a molecule that is a member of the class of aromatic hydrocarbons. It has been shown to be an effective fluorescent probe for the detection of cationic surfactants and can also be used as an analytical chemistry reagent for the determination of chlorine atoms in organic compounds. 9-Chloroanthracene is activated by an electron transfer from a dipole to the chlorine atom, which leads to its oxidation products. This reaction mechanism can be determined using x-ray structures and nmr spectroscopy. It has been found that 9-chloroanthracene absorbs light at wavelengths between 380 and 420 nm, with a maximum absorption at 390 nm.
