Methyl 3-methyl-2-phenylbutanoate is a carboxylic acid that has been synthesized in the laboratory. It is a mixture of mono-, di-, and tricyclic carboxylic acids, which are derivatives of naphthenic acids. The methyl group gives this compound hormonally active properties. Methyl 3-methyl-2-phenylbutanoate has been found to be toxic to animals and humans, causing burns on contact with skin and severe eye irritation.
