Pt-TTPY is a telomerase inhibitor that binds to the protein subunit of telomerase and prevents the elongation of telomeres. Pt-TTPY has been shown to inhibit cancer cells in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA. The compound also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells and tumor growth in vivo. Pt-TTPY has been tested in clinical trials for use with cisplatin as a cancer therapy. Pt-TTPY binds to DNA in a sequence-dependent manner and is concomitantly detected by mass spectrometry and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurements. This compound can be used for the detection of telomerase activity or for the measurement of telomere length.
