CAS :5-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is a synthetic chemical that is used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It has been shown to be toxic in both animals and humans, and causes skin irritation. The toxicity of 5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is due to its hydroxy group, which can form imine bonds with chloride ions. This leads to the formation of chlorinated organic compounds, some of which are carcinogenic. 5-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde also reacts with carbon disulphide to form chlorophenols, which are hazardous air pollutants. It also acts as an antihistamine by blocking histamine receptors.
