CAS :Dimethylpropiothetin (DMPT) is a chemical compound that inhibits the activity of an enzyme complex known as fatty acid synthase. It also has a number of biochemical properties, such as inhibition of adenine nucleotide biosynthesis and inhibition of lipid synthesis. DMPT's inhibitory effects are likely due to its ability to bind with the active site of the fatty acid synthase enzyme complex. This binding prevents the formation of acyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA, which are necessary for the production of long-chain fatty acids. The target gene expression is regulated by calcium pantothenate and chlorophyll A., which can stimulate transcriptional activation or repression in bacteria. Dimethylpropiothetin has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an antibiotic resistant bacterium.
