Acide 4-(2-hydroxyéthyl)-1-pipérazinéthanesulfonique, communément connu sous le nom de HEPES, est un agent tampon zwitterionique largement utilisé dans la recherche biologique et biochimique. Il a une valeur de pKa d'environ 7,5, ce qui le rend particulièrement efficace pour maintenir un pH physiologique dans les cultures cellulaires et les essais biochimiques.
