This product can also be synthesized from 2-aminoethane and ethyl acetate. 3H-Imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-2-ol reacts with nucleophiles such as chloride ions to form carboxylates, which leads to its use in assays for amines. It has been shown that this product dimerizes in the presence of water or alcohols and reacts with primary amines to form tetrones.</p>
