It is a white solid that is soluble in water and some organic solvents. 1-(Mesitylene-2-sulfonyl)-3-nitro-1,2,4-triazole has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in culture by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species. This derivative also inhibits the transfer reactions between nitro groups and hydroxyl groups within proteins. This prevents the formation of heterostructures that stabilize proteins in a particular conformational state, leading to their degradation.
